Mozena effusive about B’desh potentials

CHANDPUR, Sept 25 (UNB): Disagreeing with those who have brand Bangladesh a poor country, US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan Mozena said here on Thursday that Bangladesh is a rich country and blessed with enormous potentials.

The US diplomat said Bangladesh has many problems like lack of good governance, bureaucratic tangles, electricity crisis and inadequate infrastructure facility but the people of the country can resolve those.

He made the remarks at a meeting with civil society members arranged by the District Administration at Chandpur Circuit House with acting DC M Nurullah Nuri in the chair.

Chandpur-4 MP Dr Shamsul Huque Bhuiyan and Additional Police Super M Kamrul Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Mozena said his government is extending help and assistance to Bangladesh to solve the problems now facing by it. He mentioned that child mortality below five years has declined in Bangladesh and the US assistance played a role in this regard.

The US diplomat said Bangladesh has enough manpower and it is the biggest wealth, which other countries lack. "With this huge manpower and wealth, this country can go ahead with a determination to turn it into a middle-income one," he said.
