The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will start on January 14 next year the hearing on appeal filed by condemned war crimes convict Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid challenging the ICT-2 verdict that handed him down the capital punishment. A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain set the date on Wednesday. After finding the Jamaat-e-Islami leader guilty of 5, out of 7, charges, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on July 17 last year awarded Mujahid death penalty for committing crimes against humanity during Bangladesh’s independence struggles in 1971, according to a news agency.
