MEHERPUR, Apr 4 (BSS): Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq, MP, said here today that construction work of the Mujibnagar Complex with a map of Bangladesh would be completed by this year.

"The history of Liberation War and Mujibnagar is coherent with each other. The Awami League government is playing a significant role for development of the Mujibnagar Complex," he said after visiting the place ahead of the Mujibnagar Day to be observed on April 17 officially.

Among others, Prof Farhad Hossain Dadul, MP, of Meherpur-1 constituency, Deputy Commissioner Mahmud Hossain, Administrator Advocate Miajan Ali and Police Super AKM Nahidul Islam accompanied the minister.

"The first government of the country had taken oath here. The country had achieved independence through a nine-month bloody war under the guidance of Mujibnagar government. Initiative of constructing Mujibnagar mausoleum and a map of the country had started at the directives of Father of the Nation," the minister said.

"Baidyanathtala village was renamed as "Mujibnagar" by the locals to pay honour to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of the Independent Bangladesh," he said.

The minister expressed hope that a land port would be set up in Meherpur within the tenure of the present government to materialise the long-cherished demand of the locals and necessary measures have already been taken in this respect.
