Vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur on Monday alleged that he felt insecure due to frequent attacks and threats by the 'cadres of the ruling Awami League and its wings'.
He made the allegation at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen on the DU campus following an attack on him in Ulania Bazar area under Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali district on August 14.
Nur said, "I feel highly insecure as my life is being threatened by the ruling party leaders. It is only for my stance against lawlessness and irregularities. I didn't commit any crimes."
He also alleged that he was attacked eight times by the leaders of Bangladesh Awami League and its student wing Chhatra League (BCL), but he did not get justice till now.
"On August 14, local Awami League and Chhatra League cadres attacked me at Ulania Bazar while I was going to my sister's house in Dashmina."
Nur claimed that Galachipa Upazila chairman Shahin Shah led the attack at the behest of SM Shahjada Shaju, lawmaker for Patuakhali-3 constituency.
"Shahin's brother Nur-e-Alam, Awami League municipality unit leader Mainul Islam, Ulania unit Juba League leader Shakil and hundred other leaders and activists of the ruling party, attacked me with rods, steel pipes and machetes in a bid to kill me," he alleged.
The ruling party 'cadres' also prevented him from getting proper treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, he added.
The DUCSU VP demanded punishment for the attackers responsible for all incidents. He also urged the students to get united against all irregularities and injustices.
