Mohammadpur 9-murder case

Nanak, 27 others indicted

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered a crimes against humanity case against Jahangir Kabir Nanak and 27 others over nine murders in Mohammadpur during the July Uprising to proceed to trial, reports bdnews24.com.

The tribunal set June 8 for opening statements and the recording of testimony.

A Tribunal-1 bench led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder indicted the suspects on Sunday. The other bench member was retired district and sessions judge Md Mohitul Enam Chowdhury.

Prosecutor Gazi HM Tamim, Tarek Abdullah, Sahidul Islam Sardar and Abdus Sardar Palowan represented the prosecution at the hearing.

After the hearing, Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam told the media that the brutal murder of teenager Farhan Fayaz in Mohammadpur was part of the "open instructions" to use lethal weapons indiscriminately against students and members of the public during the July Uprising and the public. A total of 28 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, have been charged in the tribunal for the murder of Fayaz and other incidents on Jul 18 and 19, 2024.
