Minister for Health and Family Welfare Affairs Mohammad Nasim directed Sunday the authorities concerned to expedite eviction of illegally built slums, shops and other structures near different hospitals and institutions under the ministry, reports BSS.
He issued the directive at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the meeting room of commerce ministry in the secretariat.
State Minister for Health Jahid Malek, State Minister for Asaduzzaman Khan, health secretary, director general of department of health, and officials of concerned ministries, departments and agencies attended the meeting, said an official release.
The health minister asked the committee formed earlier to finalise a schedule to conduct eviction drives soon.
He sought cooperation of home ministry, city corporations, district administrations, police and concerned hospitals and institutions to make the drives a success.
Mohammad Nasim said making illegal structures on public land is an age-old problem and many criminal gangs remain involved in the process, he said.
He said most of 100 acres of land of health department at Mohakhali in the city is now out of possession.
People do not get a congenial environment for getting health services because of the encroachers, he said and stressed the need for conducing eviction drives successfully and start beautification activities after evictions.
Earlier, eviction drives were conducted in a number of hospitals and institutions in the city at the directive of the minister. Initiatives have been taken for beautification in those areas.
