Awami League Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim on Sunday reiterated that the next parliamentary election will be held as per the constitution under the Sheikh Hasina-led government and urged the BNP to take preparations for taking part in the polls, reports BSS.
"Whatever they (BNP) said in their today's rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city, the next parliamentary elections will be held as per the country's constitution. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead the poll-time government while the Election Commission will conduct the polls," he said at a discussion in the city.
Bangabandhu Academy organised the discussion at Institution of Diploma Engineers marking the 72nd birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Bangabandhu Academy Adviser Mohammad Nazmul Haque presided over the discussion addressed by, among others, Awami League Advisory Council members Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu and Bangladesh Krishak League General Secretary Advocate Khandaker Shamsul Haque Reza.
Referring to the 'Jatiya Oikya Prokriya' leaders, Nasim, also spokesperson of the 14-party alliance, said although they are wise, they have no morality.
Urging the parties making alliance against the government for taking part in the election, Nasim said there is no problem in holding rallies and bringing out processions, but "you should take part in the election as it is knocking at the door."
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will decide on giving party nominations in the election, the AL leader said, adding, "We have to extend supports to the candidates, who will be nominated by Sheikh Hasina".
AL would finalise its list of candidates within the next month (October), he added.
Urging the electorate for taking the right decision during casting their votes in the election, Nasim said, "If you take any wrong decision, you will have to regret for it in future".
