Awami League central leader and former home minister Mohammad Nasim Sunday urged upon the government to declare April 17 a national holiday, reports BSS. While lauding the observance of the occasion at state level, he said that if the day is declared a holiday, the new generations could know the glorious chapter of their national history and heritage. On this day in 1971, the oath taking of the provisional government with Bangabandhu as the President at the Meherpur mango forest was the formal recognition of independent and sovereign Bangladesh attuned to the declaration of independence by the Father of the Nation, he said. Mohammad Nasim was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League (JGL) at Moitre Auditorium of Mukti Bhaban in observance of the historic Mujibnagar Day. Mohammd Nasim sharply criticized the move of IOJ leader Fazlul Haq Amini to destabilize the social order by creating chaos and confrontations in the country and demanded his immediate arrest.
