Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu said Wednesday the government has already drafted the National Broadcasting Policy-2013 and it would soon be sent to cabinet for approval, reports BSS.

"We'll finalise the National Broadcasting Policy-2013 soon ... it is now awaiting approval by the cabinet," Inu told a discussion at Sagor-Runi auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city.

Bangladesh Cable TV Viewers Forum (BCTVF) arranged the meeting, where the minister also distributed the 'Diamond World Life Style Best Journalism Award' among 18 personalities and organisations.

President of the forum Erfanul Haque Nahid presided over the function, while Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shah Alamgir attended it as the special guest. Leader of the BCTVF Barun Bhoumik Noyon moderated it.

Inu said the national broadcasting policy is being finalised aiming at protecting the interests of viewers and journalists working for TV channels and for broadcasting programmes in an organised manner.

"We'll form a national broadcasting commission too for smooth implementation of the broadcasting policy," he said. Referring to the Prime Minister's firm commitment to flourish the country's media industry, he said the government believes in full freedom of the press.

Inu called upon the authorities concerned to be watchful so that false and provocative reports are not broadcast.
