Nat'l footballer Nargis to contest RUCSU polls

National women's football team player Mossammat Nargis Khatun has announced her candidacy for the position of sports secretary in the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) election, contesting from a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-nominated panel.

The panel was officially declared on Sunday in front of the university's Shaheed Minar by Amanullah Aman, organising secretary of the central Chhatra Dal.

Nargis, a student of the Management Studies department from the 2019-20 academic session, has been a professional footballer since 2014. She has represented Bangladesh in several age-based teams - Under-14, 16, 17, and 19 - as well as the senior women's national team. She also plays for Bashundhara Kings Women's Team.

Expressing gratitude for her nomination, Nargis said, "I thank Chhatra Dal for including me in their panel. The party respects women and encourages sports. I am pleased to be part of their panel."

She noted that student-athletes at the university face significant challenges due to limited facilities.

"I have seen many talented athletes who could represent the university at the international level if given proper support. Many female students also want to participate in sports but do not get the opportunity," she said.
