Nat'l Revolution, Solidarity Day today

November 07, 2007 00:00:00

The National Revolution and Solidarity Day will be observed today (Wednesday) commemorating the 1975 uprising staged by people and soldiers amid a topsy-turvy on the country's political arena, reports UNB.
On this day in 1975, the protestors foiled a "conspiracy" against the national independence and sovereignty and freed the then chief of army staff, Ziaur Rahman, from captivity in Dhaka cantonment.
The 7th November is a public holiday. To mark the day, BNP and its front organisations have chalked out programmes, including milad mahfil and offering fateha at Zia's mazar.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) will also observe the day as the day of civil-military revolution.
