NCC pollsAL lends support to Shamim

Ending days of suspense, Awami League (AL) has given out its support to Shamim Osman as the Narayanganj City Corpo-ration (NCC) mayor candidate. "Awami League supports Shamim Osman for the Narayanganj City Corporation elections," Awami League acting general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif told bdnews24.com Tuesday. "Party central and local leaders are already working with him. There is no scope for confusion here," he added. There have been confusions over the ruling party's support to its two members who are vying for the first NCC polls, former Nara-yanganj Muni-cipality mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and former MP Shamim. Over Election Commi-ssion's repeated warnings, AL's top leadership held multiple meetings with the two but were unable to convince either to withdraw. Hanif said the party was supporting Shamim in accordance with the electoral code.
