Nearly 0.2m postal ballots reach BD from abroad


A total of 1,94,914 postal ballots have already arrived in Bangladesh from abroad ahead of 13th national election, scheduled to be held on February 12.
The Election Commission (EC) sent a total of 7,66,862 ballots to non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) and 5,22, 315 of them obtained the voting documents.
The Election Commission revealed the figures in a statement issued to the media on Monday.
Some 4,64,225 NRBs have sealed their desired symbols and the majority of them or 4,18,962 submitted to post offices of the countries where they stay.
Meanwhile, the election commission also started despatching in-country postal ballots to the domestic voters who are unable to attend polling centres in-person.
Polling officials, members of the law-enforcing agencies and prisoners are allowed to use the IT-supported postal voting system.
So far, some 58,797 domestic voters have received the postal ballots and 6,46,507 of the total voters received the ballot papers, according to the EC.
