Newsman nabbed while collecting toll

JHALAKATI, June 11 (UNB): A journalist was arrested by the joint forces while he was collecting toll from a Union Parishad (UP) chairman at a hotel in the district town Sunday.
The arrested was identified as Hasan Mahmud Talukder Ripon, district correspondent of Bangla Vision, the daily Khabarpatra and the daily Karatoa.
Police said Ripon had been demanding Tk 50,000 toll from Krittipasha UP Chairman Abdus Shukur threatening to publish reports against him.
The chairman later agreed to pay him Tk 5000 in the first instalment and informed the law enforcers of the matter.
As per the arrangement the plainclothes joint forces team arrested Ripon red handed while he was taking the money from the chairman in town's Polashi Hotel.
A case was filed against him with the police.
