Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said on Saturday the next parliamentary election will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Election Commission will conduct the polls, reports UNB.
"We have strong and independent Election Commission. The election will be held under the Commission and the Prime Minister as per the constitution. The government will not interfere in the election."
The Awami League presidium member came up with the comment while addressing a discussion as chief guest at Dhaka University (DU).
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) DU Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall unit arranged the programme to observe the 98th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation.
Citing the examples of USA and India, he said there is no confusion that the election will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina like other democratic countries.
Giving the example of Bangladesh's graduating from least-developed country (LDC) to a developing one, the minister said, "It was possible only for our Prime Minister's strong leadership. We should keep faith in the leadership of Sheikh Hasina for the country's further development and give this government more time to develop more."
Presided over by BCL Hall unit president Rakibul Islam Badhon, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif MP, Hall Provost Prof Mofizur Rahman, BCL central committee President Saifur Rahman Sohag, and general secretary SM Jakir Hossain, DU BCL president Abid Al Hasan and general secretary Motahar Hossain Prince also addressed the programme.
