The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday strongly condemned the torture and harassment of vernacular daily Prothom Alo's Patuakhali correspondent ABM Mizanur Rahman in police custody at Bauphal thana, reports UNB.
In a statement, NHRC chairman Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman also expressed grave concern over different incidents of attacks on journalists across the country in recent times.
The NHRC came up with the condemnation citing news reports on the assaults on ABM Mizanur Rahman under police custody at Bauphal thana.
Later, the journalist was admitted to jail hospital following an order from a court.
"We are deeply concerned over the rising incidents of attacks on journalists in the similar style," said the statement.
The NHRC chief observed that quick steps should be taken in such situation and the persons involved in these attacks should be brought to the book.
