Independent MP Rustom Ali Faraji sought on Tuesday the Prime Minister's intervention in ensuring the security of the data centre of the National Identity (NID) Card and the citizens' personal information, reports UNB.
Standing on point of order at the very beginning of the day's business in parliament, Faraji said the national security will be at stake if the data centre is kept under the control of project officer or under the contracting farm, Tiger IT.
Faraji said though the data centre of the national ID card was supposed to be handed over to the Election Commission (EC) by June 30, 2012, the contracting farm still kept it under its control.
As per the contract, he said, Tiger IT was supposed to train the EC officials and engineers before handing over the data centre to the commission. "But they neither trained the EC officials and engineers and nor handed over the data centre."
Faraji said it is possible to delete any information or provide the information to any other unauthorised agency if the data centre is kept under the control of the contracting IT farm. "It'll also put our national security at stake."
The MP urged the Prime Minister to interfere in the matter in a bid to ensure national security.
He alleged that the EC officials are plundering huge money from the project through corruption.
