BNP claimed Tuesday  that there has been no tangible success in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's much-hyped tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as she has failed to sign any deal with the Gulf nation on manpower export from Bangladesh, reports UNB.
"Our Prime Minister has made a much-hyped visit to the UAE. What's the outcome of it? The result is that the UAE will continue hiring female domestic helps from Bangladesh as it does always, that's it," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.  He further said, "But, no agreement was signed on hiring manpower from Bangladesh. That means the prime minister's  UAE tour has failed."
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion, titled 'October 28 Tragedy, 2006: Resist Awami medieval acts' arranged by Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa) at the Jatiya Press Club.
During the tour, Bangladesh and the UAE signed three deals, including an 'Agreement on Security Cooperation' between the two countries, aiming to enhance cooperation in containing crimes.  The two other deals signed on Monday are 'Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Prisoners' and 'Handing over of a piece of land for the UAE embassy in Dhaka'.
Fakhrul alleged that the prime minister only holds photo sessions going abroad and carries out campaigns that her tours are successful.  "We would have been happy had your tour been successful. But you please first make the country's people happy by restoring their rights you have stanched."
Another report adds: Jatiya Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad said Tuesday the Prime Minister's visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has not been fruitful as it failed to yield desired results.
"The outcomes of the tour are not as good as expected. We would have been happy had the achievements been better. Though she (PM) had been there with a good will, it couldn't be materialised," he said.
The former military ruler made the comments while talking to reporters after attending a conference of Jatiya Ulema Party at the city's Institution of Diploma Engineers.
