Planning Minister AK Khandaker said that the government would not make any block allocation of Tk 150 million each in cash to the MPs for infrastructure development in their respective constituencies.
He was responding to a supplementary question from M Mojibul Huq (Jatiya Party-Kishoreganj) in the House Monday, reports UNB.
The minister said that the government decided to give the allocation for 287 constituencies for infrastructure development.
"You (lawmakers) will discuss with the people of your respective constituencies, and then fix what kind of infrastructure development you need. Is it road or bridge?"
After this, the respective lawmaker would inform the Local Government Engin-eering Department (LGED) for the infrastructure development, the Planning Minister added. "The LGED will do the job and there will be no block allocation in cash for the MPs."
He said money would not be handed over to the lawmakers and they would not be allowed to do the job. "You (lawmaker) will just look after the development works." Replying to another supplementary question from Kamal Ahmed Majumder (Awami League-Dhaka), AK Khandaker said that the development works of Tk 150 million was just for the rural areas, not for big cities and metropolitan areas.
