BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah alleged Friday that the government is alluring some 'deserter leaders of few parties in the alliance' with posts and positions in their nefarious bid to split the BNP-led 20- party alliance, reports UNB.
But no conspiracy will succeed to split the BNP-led alliance with such isolated party leaders, he said at a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club.
The discussion, titled 'Conspiracy against Zia family: Duty of patriotic citizens', was arranged by Dhaner Shish Samarthak Forum.
The BNP leader said: "Khaleda Zia, even the Prime Minister, can be arrested if found guilty of any crime. But such decision of arrest will come from the court. How can a Prime Minister issue threat from a party meeting about Khaleda Zia's arrest?"
He said: "If khaleda Zia is arrested as per the directive from the highest executive of the country, people will never accept it. People of this country will erupt in protest against it and the consequences will be devastating."
Rafiqul Islam Mian severely criticised the 16th amendment of Constitution and alleged that it has been done as per the wishes of Sheikh Hasina to keep the judiciary under her control.
BNP publicity secretary Joynul Abdin Faruk, among others, also spoke at the discussion chaired by Dr. Mohammad Golam Mostafa, founding president of Dhaner Shish Samarthak Forum.
