March 23, 2015 00:00:00

The Detective Branch (DB) of police said they are yet to identify the killers of writer-blogger Avijit Roy, reports bdnes24.com.

"There were a lot of people around the spot where Avijit was killed but none could clearly say how many assailants were involved in the attack or what they looked like," DB spokesperson Monirul Islam told reporters on Sunday.

US-based bioengineer Avijit, known for his secular writings, was hacked to death on the Dhaka University campus on February 26. His wife and fellow blogger Rafida Ahmed Bonya lost a thumb in the attack.

Avijit's father Prof Ajay Roy has been critical of the way the probe has progressed.

He suspects religious extremists who threatened Avijit for his writings.

.Police suspect several attackers were involved in the assault.

"Maybe someone had taken snaps but we haven't detected them yet. Pictures of the attack will be helpful in the investigation," he said adding that identity of anyone providing pictures of the incident would not be disclosed.
