Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Thursday that the ongoing political events could not harm businesses a lot except fall in work orders a little bit.
"Business leaders informed me that production at the factories is going as usual and the supply chain is yet to be affected. But, the work orders witnessed a little bit fall," he told newsmen after a meeting with leaders of Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) at his secretariat office.
He said buyers are observing the overall situation and they are hopeful that the impasse will end soon.
Terming the blockade and hartal, enforced by Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP), terrorist acts Mr Ahmed said people have no support to such activities.
"I have come across heavy traffic while coming to office this morning. Everything is normal. There is no impact of today's hartal called by the BNP," said the minister.
Urging BNP to shun destructive activities he said they would not be able to realise demand through this way. "If attaining everything was possible through terrorist activities, Osama Bin Laden's Al-Qaeda could have occupied many countries."
Some people are trying to create a Pakistan- like situation in Bangladesh, he added.
