Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Saturday that no reforms would be meaningful without participation of the people.

He also said that reforms could be done through parliamentary system and for this reason national election is needed as early as possible.

Mr Fakhrul made the comment while addressing an event organised by Bangladesh Youth Parliament 2024 at Supreme Court Bhaban in the capital.

Calling upon the youths to have patience, he said, "The interim government has done a lot of works during the last three months after taking over the responsibility. Time should be given to this government."

"This interim government has constituted several commissions for reforms. They have also taken initiative for holding trial of the fascist. And we must not refuse to take this opportunity," he continued.

Mr Fakhrul further said that fascist Sheikh Hasina and her collaborators were getting chances to hatch conspiracy due to some negative comments (delivered by a quarter ) and a section of media was also promoting that, a trend that must end.

"Experiences of the senior persons together with the youths' strength and courage should be utilised for the development of the country," he said.

"Time should be given to this interim government. We have given responsibility to them. Many in the media may not see their (interim government) successes. It is not possible to do everything with one go. I call upon the youths …. please have patience," he added.
