BNP on Sunday alleged that the Returning Officer rejected the nomination papers of its aspirants in Manikganj district questioning the authenticity of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's signatures during the scrutiny.
A letter signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was submitted to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda with such complaints.
"The returning officer cancelled our aspirants' nomination papers in all the three constituencies in Manikganj questioning the signatures of our party's general secretary," BNP chairperson's adviser Bijon Kanti Sarkar told reporters after handing over the letter to the EC Secretary.
Bijon said Fakhrul also informed the matter to the Election Commission making phone calls to the EC secretary.
Later, the EC secretary suggested that BNP file an appeal against the decision of the retuning officer informing that the Commission has nothing to do now in this stage as the nomination papers have already been rejected, Bijon added.
