BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir termed Sunday as an eyewash the police raid in the house of councillor Nur Hossain, reports UNB.
"Law enforcers raided the house of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the Narayanganj seven-murder case, so many days after the abduction and killing of the seven people in Narayanganj when people burst into protests. It was nothing but an eyewash", Mirza Fakhrul said this while inaugurating his party's eight-hour hunger strike on the Jatiya Press Club premises in the city Sunday.
As part of the party's countrywide hunger strike programme, Dhaka city unit BNP arranged the programme and its convener Sadeq Hossain Khoka presided over the programme that began at 9:15 am.
Fakhrul alleged that there was no rule of law and security of people in the country as Bangladesh became a country of killing, forced disappearance and abduction.
He said people have become increasingly vocal against forced disappearance and abduction after the gruesome Narayanganj incident.
"A good number of opposition leaders and activists fell victims of forced disappearance in the last five years. Even many of the BNP leaders and activists, including Chowdhury Alam and Ilias Ali, still remained untraced."
Accusing the government of carrying out abduction, Mirza Fakhrul said: "The law enforcers with direct patronage of the government has made the opposition men disappear and they are still doing this."
He also accused the government of using the law enforcers in their misdeeds and making political gains.
The BNP spokesperson further alleged that the government was harassing the opposition leaders and activists, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, by implicating them in false cases.
Referring to the obstruction to a progamme arranged by the civil society members in front of Jatiya Sangsad to protest killing and abduction, he said the government 'considers all the people of the country as their enemy' whenever people protest against their misdeeds.
