Osmani Medical College closed until June 12 over death of JCD activist

SYLHET, June 5 (UNB): The authorities of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College declared the college closed until June 12 following unrest on the campus over the death of an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) .
Principal of the medical college Prof Dr Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury said they have decided to keep the college closed until Thursday in a meeting of the academic council today.
Besides, a five -member probe body headed by Surgery Department head Prof Dr AKM Mosharref Hossain has been formed to investigate the incident, he said.
JCD activist Towhidul Islam, a 4th year MBBS student of the medical college and an inmate of Abu Sina Hall, sustained injuries in an attack allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in his dormitory room at the college Wednesday evening.
He was rushed in a critical condition to Osmani Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 8:35 pm.
Sylhet Metropolitan police ADC and media wing chief Md Rahmatullah said Anwar Hossain, uncle of Towhidul, filed a murder case with Kotwali police station mentioning names of 10 Bangladesh Chhatra League men and 8/10 unidentified people.
City unit BNP announced a half-day here hartal for Sunday protesting the killing.
Meanwhile, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College unit Jatiytabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) enforced strike on the campus on Thursday protesting the killing of JCD activist Towhidul Islam.
