Outlaws killed in mob attack, crossfire

MEHERPUR, Nov 15 (UNB): A regional leader of an outlawed party was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Raypur village under Gangni Upazila Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Badshah Mia, regional commander of Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML-Lal Potaka) and son of Adsuddin of the village.
Police said villagers caught Badshah after a hot chase at about 2.00am when he along with his accomplices entered the village.
Later, they beat him mercilessly, leaving him critically injured. His accomplices, however, managed to flee the scene.
On information, police rescued and rushed him to Sadar Hospital where he died after a few minutes.
Police also recovered one LG, one shutter-gun and one round of bullet from the spot.
Badshah was wanted in several criminal cases, including murder, police said.
In Kushtia, an outlawed party leader was killed in an 'encounter' between his cohorts and law-enforcers at Khalishakundi Panchpirtala village under Daulatpur Upazila Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Mamunar Rashid Mamun (32), regional leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (ML-Janajuddha). He hailed from Akabpur village under Gangni Upazila of Meherpur district.
Acting on a secret information, police conducted a raid on the village while Mamun and his cohorts were holding a clandestine meeting at about 3:55am.
Sensing the presence of the police, the outlaws opened fire on them, forcing the law-enforcers to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage Mamun was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said a spot account of the incident. However, his cohorts managed to flee the scene.
Later, police recovered one Light Gun (LG), 18 rounds of bullet and 4 sharp weapons from the spot.
Mamun was an accused in a number of criminal cases, including murder, police said.
