PABNA, Sept 30 (bdnews24.com): Activists of Juba League in Pabna have allegedly gone unruly again as they vandalised at least seven vehicles after failing to extort toll from transport owners and workers.
The police arrested leader of the group Rashed Ahmed Bipul (25), general secretary of Kashinathpur Union Juba League, from the scene Wednesday.
Transport workers alleged that the Juba League leaders and activists started vandalising the vehicles after transport owners demanded their arrests in a meeting in the morning over extortion.
They had been extorting money from vehicles at Kashinathpur intersection of the Pabna-Nagarbari Highway over the last few days, they said.
Hearing the news of vandalism the police rushed to the spot and arrested Bipul.
Pabna district Juba League general secretary Rakib Hassan Tipu denied the organisation's involvement in the incident and said: "The incident might have occurred at Bipul's personal initiative."
Transport workers laid a siege on the highway for nearly an hour protesting the vandalism.
