A Dhaka court has placed ex-state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, and former DNCC councillor for ward No. 29 Salimullah Solu on remand once again for different terms, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the order after a hearing on Wednesday.
Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court confirmed the information.
The accused were produced before the court in the morning.
The investigation officer of the murder case produced DNCC mayor Atiqul in a case filed with Uttara East Police Station and sought a 10-day remand order while his lawyer petitioned for bail and a scrapping of the remand. The court later rejected the bail plea and remanded Atiqul for three days for interrogation in the lawsuit.
According to the case dossier, the victim, Md Fazlul Karim, took part in the student-led mass anti-discrimination movement on August 5. He was hospitalised with bullet injuries in the afternoon. The on-duty doctor declared him dead after he was taken to the intensive care unit at night.
The deceased's brother Anwar Hossain Aynal filed a murder case with the Uttara West Police Station on Aug 21, 2024.
On the same day, the probe officer of another case petitioned for Palak, Sadek, and Solu to be remanded for five days in an attempt to murder case filed at the Mohammadpur Police Station.
Lawyers representing the accused - Farzana Yasmin Rakhi and Tariqul Islam - filed petitions seeking their bail and the scrapping of the remand. After hearing the pleas, the court granted police two days to grill the accused on remand.
According to the complaint, the 26-year-old driver of a three-wheeler, Insan Ali, was pedalling his vehicle in the Mohammadpur Bus Stand area on July 19 during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
He was hospitalised after being shot on the road.
The victim's father, Mister Hossain, filed an attempt to murder case against 266 people with Mohammadpur Police Station on Nov 13.
