June 28, 2007 00:00:00

General Secretary of Awami Shechchhasebak League Pankaj Devnath was indicted Wednesday by a makeshift special judge's court in a graft case and fixed July 1 to start formal trial, reports UNB.
Detained Pankaj, standing in the dock, pleaded not guilty and sought justice when Judge M Firoze Alam read out the charges.
Earlier, the court rejected the defence plea for discharging the case.
Pankaj's wife Monica Pankaj, who faces the same charges, will be tried in absentia, as she remains fugitive.
Pankaj and his wife are accused of concealing information in their wealth statement submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The anti-corruption watchdog states the couple amassed wealth worth Tk 6.50 million disproportionate to their legal sources of income.
