KHAGRACHHARI, Jan 6 (UNB): The daylong road and waterway blockade enforced by United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and its like-minded indigenous organisations protesting the killing of its organiser Mithun Chakma passed off 'peacefully' barring some stray incidents of violence in the district on Saturday.
Almost all types of vehicles remained off the streets on the long route and domestic routes since the morning.
Police chased picketers around 10:00 am in Chengi Bridge area of the district town and dispersed them firing blank shots.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Khagrachhari thana Tareque Mohammad Abdul Hannan said three policemen, including assistant sub-inspector Abul Hossain, were injured as picketers hurled brickbats at them.
Additional police remained deployed at different strategic points during the blockade hour to avert any untoward incident.
On January 3, Mithun was shot to death by miscreants at Pankhaiyapara in Sadar upazila.
