TANGAIL, Mar 14 (BSS): Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday the country people do not want to see BNP in power as the party is an evil force patronising communalism and militancy.

"The activities of BNP have again proved that they are patronising communalism and militancy...They come in election wearing the mask of Liberation War, but they don't own the spirit of the Liberation War," he said, speaking at a meeting at Shaheed Smriti Pouro Udyan here.

District Awami League organised the workers' meeting with its president Fazlur Rahman Khan in the chair.

Quader said BNP is now perplexed and reckless and the people of the country are no more with their negative politics.

He said BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia has been convicted in a graft case. But the BNP leaders are spreading falsehood saying the government sent her to jail, which is totally ridiculous. "I want to ask them who gave the (conviction) order -- the government or the court?" he added.

The AL general secretary urged BNP to come in the next general election to verify their strength.

AL Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzak, AL Joint Secretary Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, AL Education and Human Resources Secretary Shamsur Nahar Champa, central leaders Chanyar Hossain and Marufa Akthar Popy, among others, addressed the meeting.
