Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Tuesday said people of the country would resist any type of attempt at creating anarchy regarding the verdict in the graft case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, reports BSS.

"Begum Khaleda Zia has to accept the verdict. If she feels aggrieved, she has the choice to file appeal with the High Court but people of the country would not tolerate any kind of chaotic situation or violence over the issue," he said.

Hanif was speaking as the chief guest at a prize-giving ceremony among the best teachers and caretakers of mosque-based education and mass education programme initiated by Islamic Foundation at the conference shade of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque here.

Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman presided over the programme while AL religious affairs secretary Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Chairman of Bangladesh Islami Oikya Jote and governor of Islamic Foundation board of governors Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury and AL Advisory Parishad member Golam Mawla Nakshbandi, among others, were present on the occasion.

Hanif said the present government or Awami League did not file the case against the BNP chief, the case was filed by the caretaker government in 2007.

The AL joint general secretary said it is very shameful for a former prime minister to misappropriate the money of orphans.

People will be happy if she (Khaleda) could prove herself innocent and we too will have not be embarrassed, but if she is convicted, she has to accept that, he added.
