Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said on Thursday the country's people will respond to the misdeeds BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia carried out in the last three months through ballots, reports UNB.
"Politicians have to go to court or jail when they face trial, people try those politicians who don't go to court or jail," he said while talking to reporters after a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Benoit Pierre Laramee at the Secretariat.
Tofail further said, "Now Khaleda has returned to her home and is passing a peaceful life. But she must answer to people for the killing of innocent people in petrol bomb attacks during the last three months."
About the upcoming city corporation polls, the minister said the elections will be held in a free and fair manner as before.
"Five city corporation elections were held during Awami League regime in a peaceful manner. During a city corporation election, in BNP's tenure in 2002 no AL-supported candidates could contest the polls," he added.
Tofail said a 10-member delegation of farmers met him Thursday. They sought government assistance to recoup the losses they have incurred in the last three months for hartal and blockade. The minister also said during the meeting the Canadian High Commissioner expressed happiness over the return of normalcy in the county and holding of the city corporation elections.
