Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said Saturday the perpetrators of 21 August carnage will be tried like the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.

"We finally ensured trial of the killers of Bangabandhu and execution of the court's verdict . . .like that we will ensure trial of the culprits ,whoever they may be, involved in the Aug 21 grenade attacks at Bangabandhu Avenue," he said while speaking at a discussion at Kobi Nazrul Islam College in the old part of the city.

College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised the discussion as part of their month-long mourning programme commemorating the martyrdom of

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The food minister accused Khaleda Zia and her son Tareque Rahman of holding a secret meeting with Mufti Hannan and other militant leaders of Pakistan and Kashmir at Hawa Bhaban to kill Sheikh Hasina, the then opposition leader and Awami League (AL) President.

He said Mufti Hannan, in his confessional statement under the section-164, confessed in details.

"Missing, killing, countrywide bombing and suicidal attack were very common during the BNP-Jamaat regime," Quamrul observed.

Founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman, he alleged, started the politics of killings

assassinating Bangabandhu and his family members in 1975. Referring to the

interview of self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu, Col Farooque and Col Rashid, in a foreign television channel that time, the minister said, "Zia was definitely the supreme mastermind of the Aug 15 killings."

He was very critical about observing the fake birthday of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on the fateful day of August 15.

Quamrul, also a leader of Dhaka city Awami League, called upon the leaders and workers of BCL to play positive role.

He also asked them to take lesson from the history so that everyone can contribute to the welfare of the country and its people.

President of College unit of BCL Mamunur Rashid chaired the discussion. Among others, Principal Nurunnahar, Dhaka city AL organizing secretary Syed Khokon, AL sub-committee member Golam Sarwar Kabir and BCL President Badiuzzaman Sohag spoke on the occasion.
