A petition was filed with a Dhaka court against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others on charge of criminal solicitation in connection with the killing of people in blockade-related violence, report agencies.
The three other accused are BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian, BNP chairperson's advisers Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and Prof Emajuddin Ahmed.
Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqui filed the petition with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Atikur Rahman.
After hearing the statement of the petitioner, the court ordered the officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station to launch an investigation into the allegation.
It was mentioned by the petitioner that 42 people succumbed to their injuries in arson attacks while the government incurred losses of billions of taka because of the violence solicited by Khaleda during the blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance from January 5 to February 1.
Another report adds: A Dhaka court on Monday placed BNP chairperson's adviser Mosaddek Ali Falu on a five-day remand in an arson case filed with Khilgaon Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Hasibul Haque passed the order when Mohammad Billal Hossain, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand for him.
Besides, the court turned down a bail petition submitted by Falu's lawyer Mohammad Sanaullah Miah.
On January 30, miscreants set a bus of 'Great Turag' afire by hurling a petrol bomb near Khilgaon Flyover around 8:00 pm, leaving three passengers injured. Falu was shown arrested in the case.
The bus owner Md Nazrul Islam filed a case the same day with the Khilgaon police.
Falu, who owns private TV station NTV, was detained by detectives on Sunday from in front of the BNP chief's Gulshan office.
Plainclothesmen surrounded him when he was getting in the car with an NTV sticker on it.
