A petition was filed with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking stay on the notification regarding appointment of Professor Fouzia Rezwan as the new principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC).

After filing the petition, Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, said, "Earlier a petition was filed with the High Court seeking stay on the appointment of the new principal of VNSC. But the court issued only a rule upon her appointment and didn't pass any stay order. That is why a petition has been filed with the Appellate Division seeking stay on her appointment."

"The Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division may hear the petition on Thursday (today)," added the lawyer.

The government appointed Professor Fouzia Rezwan as the new principal of the VNSC on September 15.

Advocate Eunus Ali Akond filed a writ petition with the High Court on the following day challenging the legality of her appointment.

After hearing the petition, the High Court on September 17 issued a rule upon the respondents to explain as to why the appointment of Professor Fouzia Rezwan as the principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College should not be declared unlawful.

But the court did not pass any stay order upon her appointment.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said there was no bar for Professor Fouzia Rezwan to join as the principal of the institution following the HC order.

Shortly afterwards, Professor Fouzia joined her new workplace.
