Petrol bomb attack on ex-AL MP\\\'s vehicle

KURIGRAM, Aug 3 (UNB): The jeep of Jakir Hossain, former Awami League (AL) lawmaker, was damaged as it caught fire after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at it on the premises of Roumari thana Sunday.
Shamim Hasan Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Roumari thana, said policemen rushed out of the police station complex at around 2:30 am hearing a big bang only to see the Toyota Land Cruiser jeep of the former MP from Kurigram-4 constituency burning.
Later, the police personnel extinguished the fire which damaged the engine and seat of the vehicle. Besides, its windowpane on the right side was also damaged.
The law enforcers recovered 20 crackers and a piece of foam soaked in petrol from the spot.
Contacted, Jakir Hossain claimed that the attack was launched in a bid to kill him.
He also said he was scheduled to leave for the capital at around 12:30 am Sunday. However, he had to cancel the trip as the driver did not turn up.
