Plot on against Khaleda Zia, says Rizvi

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday asserted that a conspiracy was being hatched to banish chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from this world.

He also bitterly criticised a recent media statement issued by the Police Service Association protesting reports on corruption allegedly committed by two former high-ranking police officials.

According to Mr Rizvi, the statement is a direct threat to press freedom.

His comments came at a doa mahfil [prayer for divine blessing] hosted by the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at the nationalist party's headquarters at Nayapaltan.

Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal president Afroza Abbas chaired the event.

Organising secretary Sultana Ahmed, senior joint general secretary Helen Jerin Khan, Dhaka south unit Mohila Dal president Ruma Akter and its general secretary Shahinur Nargis, among others, were present.

Meanwhile, the BNP holds a press conference on the ongoing political and other issues today (Tuesday).

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the briefing at the party chairperson's Gulshan office at 11:30 am, according to BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.
