Claiming that a plot is on to overthrow Sheikh Hasina's government illegally, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam said Saturday it is not possible to implement another 1975-like blueprint if Awami League (AL) leaders and activists remain united, reports UNB.
"I wish Sheikh Hasina's long life. I request you (leaders and activists) to remain alert always. If we remain alert, the August 15-like cannot take place again," he said.
Syed Ashraf was addressing a discussion meeting organised by Awami League at the Institution of Engineers,Bangladesh in the city, marking the Historic Six-point Day.
Ashraf, also AL general secretary, further said, "They (conspirators) have no scope…they've no scope to defeat her (Hasina) in any election or oust her from power legally. She can only be ousted illegally. So, a plot is on to oust her illegally."
Pointing at Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), the Awami League general secretary said many people speak highly of the foreigners after being taken doles from them to run the organisation.
"They pretend to be patriotic by receiving foreigners' money and thus mislead people. They neither have knowledge in economics and politics, nor they've any patriotism," he added.
Another report adds: Syed Ashraful Islam said Saturday criticism of the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2014-15 doesn't suit BNP.
"Criticism does not suit those who placed budget by wearing uniform. Moreover, they have no right," he said indicating BNP as the party criticised the budget proposed by Finance Minister AMA Muhith on June 5.
The AL general secretary made the remarks while talking to journalists after placing wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the historic Six-point Day at Bangabandhu Bhaban in city's Dhanmondi 32.
About the economists' criticism of the proposed budget, Syed Ashraf said that only Debapriya Bhattacharya expressed confusion over the implementation of the budget. "So, there is no meaning of replying to his (Debapriya's) remarks."
He said: "The proposed budget is people-friendly."
