Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina donated Tk 60 million to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to procure hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for critically injured patients, reports UNB.

The PM handed over a cheque for the donated money to Project Director of the institute at her official residence Ganobhaban Sunday, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said Monday.

The HBOT will extend most modern treatment facilities to the critically injured patients as the system involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised room or tube.

It is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, serious infections and bubbles of air in blood vessels, and wounds that will not heal due to diabetes or radiation injury.
