Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina stressed Sunday on further simplifying the country's justice dispensation system so that the justice seekers could get justice easily, report agencies.
"We'll have to think about a newer way to make the justice delivery system easier … it's needed to take effective steps to ensure the quick disposal of cases," she said.
The PM said this in her introductory speech at her meeting with high officials of the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Hasina asked the authorities concerned to remain careful so that criminals cannot escape trial through the loopholes of laws.
"You'll have to look at it especially."
She said necessary measures will be taken to dispose of cases quickly to ensure justice for country's 160 million (16 crore) people as the aim of her government is to establish justice through quick disposal of cases.
The present government has started formulating laws in Bangla and reaching the legal aid to the doorsteps of the distressed, suppressed and hapless people, she said.
Referring to the sufferings of poor and distressed people in receiving legal aid, Hasina mentioned that the government enacted 'National Legal Aid Act' in 2001 to provide legal aid to the justice-seeking poor and distressed people. "We'll have to strengthen the system for the welfare of people," she said.
Talking about the hundreds of under-trial detainees, the PM underscored the need for quick disposal of the cases to remove the sufferings of people.
Mentioning the shortage of judges in lower courts, she said the government minimised the problems through appointing 927 assistant judges to vacant posts and creating 192 new ones. "But, we need more judges."
She also reiterated her firm commitment to let the judiciary run independently.
The PM said her government is determined to fulfill the aspirations of people making the trial process more transparent and dynamic through the use of information communications technology.
Minister for Law Anisul Huq also spoke on the occasion while secretary of the ministry Abu Saleh Sk Md Zahirul Haque, secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Mohammad Shahidul Haque and senior officials of the ministry and Prime Minister Office (PMO) were present.
