PM, Rawshan greet Saber on being elected IPU president

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina congratulated Friday Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, on his being elected the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) for the next three years, reports UNB.
He is the first Bangladeshi to win the IPU president post.
In a message, Hasina, now in Italy to attend the 10th ASEM Summit, said through the win of Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the IPU election, another feather has been added to Bangladesh's success in creating global leadership.
Saber Hossain, also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, was elected the IPU president defeating three other contestants on the concluding day of the 131st conference of the organisation held in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday.
In the election, he secured 169 votes and his nearest contestant Australian Parliament Speaker Bronwyn Bishop got 95 votes.
BSS adds: Opposition leader in the parliament Rawshan Ershad, MP, has congratulated Saber Hossain Chowdhury on his being elected as the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), an international organisation of parliament of 164 countries.
