Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed Thursday the importance of more investment and financial assistance from the developed countries for Bangladesh's further development, reports UNB.

"We need more financial help and investment from the developed nations for further development of Bangladesh," she said when outgoing French Ambassador in Bangladesh Michelle Trinquier met her at her office.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury, briefed reporters.

During the meeting, he said the Prime Minister highlighted different development activities taken by her government since 2009.

Hasina told the French envoy that her government has created a fund of US$ 385 million from its own resources to face the adverse effects of climate change. "We're now spending the money from the fund on adaptation and mitigation of climate change," she said.

The Prime Minister laid emphasis on the release of the committed financial assistance by the developed countries for the climate vulnerable countries, including Bangladesh.

The French envoy highly appreciated Bangladesh's firm stance on climate change and Sheikh Hasina's leadership role in this regard in different forums across the globe.

Michelle Trinquier mentioned that the French Development Agency has been providing financial assistance to Bangladesh for tackling climate change in its coastal region.

He also lauded Bangladesh's remarkable success in different sectors, including education, economy and millennium development goals.

The outgoing French envoy thanked the government for its sincere cooperation in performing his responsibilities during his stay in Bangladesh.
