PM urges opposition to join JS

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Monday asked the opposition parties including the BNP to come to Parliament to say anything in favour of the people, reports UNB.
"Roads are not the place for talking. Parliament is the best place for talking in a democratic system. So attend parliament, and you have to come to parliament to say anything for the people," she said during the farewell meeting with European Union Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Commission in Dhaka Stefan Frowein at her official residence Ganabhaban.
Hasina said that her government has taken various steps to make Parliament a vibrant forum and informed the EU Ambassador that her government is working hard to strengthen democracy in the country.
Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad, who was present during the meeting, informed reporters about the outcome of the meeting.
Hasina and Frowein discussed democracy, good governance and terrorism during the meeting.
The Prime Minister informed the outgoing EU Ambassador that the present government is very much open to decentralising the administration and empowering the people.
She thanked the EU and the International Community for their all out cooperation to holding a free and fair election in the country.
Hasina also expressed her gratitude to the EU for their assistance in reviving democracy in the country. In this connection she mentioned that the development of Bangladesh had been hindered as democracy faced hurdles.
The Prime Minister thanked the armed forces for their hard work in preparing the voter list with photos.
Regarding the power, gas crises and traffic congestion, she said that her government is working tirelessly and had taken various projects to improve the situation.
Frowein praised the leadership of Hasina to establish Bangladesh as a country with bright prospects.
He mentioned that the image of Bangladesh is much-improved in the international arena due to the pragmatic leadership of the Prime Minister.
He also said that the leadership of Hasina is very much appreciated for her strong leadership on the climate change issues. Frowein termed it as 'positive leadership'.
He also thanked the Prime Minister and the people of the country for their cooperation during his stay in the country.
Ambassador at large M Ziauddin and PMO Secretary Molla Waheeduzzaman were present, among others, during the meeting.
