Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina visited critically ill Awami League (AL) lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron in the city's Apollo Hospitals Saturday afternoon, reports BSS.
PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil said Sheikh Hasina stayed there for some time and enquired about his health condition from the on-duty physicians.
The Prime Minister also talked to wife, son and daughter of Hiron, who was elected parliament member from Barisal-5 constituency. She also wished him early recovery.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, AL Joint Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, MP, former chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah, MP, and PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present, among others.
Hiron, also the President of Barisal City Awami League and former mayor of Barisal City Corporation, suffered a stroke on March 22 in Barisal Club. Since then he has been kept under life support.
He was first rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Apollo Hospitals as his conditions deteriorated.
A popular political figure in Barisal, Hiron was later flown to Singapore on March 24 by an air ambulance for better treatment.
He was brought back to Dhaka Thursday night as his condition did not improve. He was admitted again to the Apollo Hospitals here on that night.
