BNP expressed deep concern on Thursday over Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina's instruction to contain violence by any means, saying it will only deepen the ongoing political crisis, reports UNB.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, "The Prime Minister yesterday (Wednesday) asked the police to suppress violence by any means and she'll shoulder the responsibility for it. Does it mean many more bodies will be found in water bodies and rivers and canals? The joint forces will unleash attacks and repression on opposition leaders and activists in village after village and gunfight stories will be cooked after killing them."
He further said, "We think the Prime Minister's comments will deepen the crisis and make it dangerous one."
Issuing a note of warning against the government's repressive acts, Rizvi said the government will not be able to subdue their movement by resorting to repression as it will only intensify their agitation.
He claimed that people are committed to continuing the movement until it achieves its victory. "We want to say, our leaders and activists will peacefully observe the blockade taking out processions with strong voices."
The BNP leader renewed his party's allegation that the government with its agents is carrying out patrol bomb attacks during their blockade programme to malign the movement.
Rizvi alleged that the government after losing its popularity is now counting on law enforcers to hang onto power and putting them against people.
