A BNP senior leader said on Wednesday Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina is now devising a new roadmap to take political revenge on its acting chairman Tarique Rahman, report agencies.

"She (Hasina) has now made Tarique Rahman her target. She's trying to make another roadmap to take revenge on him and thus satisfy her anger," he said.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remark while reacting to the PM's comment on bringing back Tarique from London at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in the city.

At a programme in London on Tuesday, Sheikh Hasina criticised the UK for giving shelter to Tarique since he is convicted by Bangladeshi courts.

"We're in talks with British government about it. And definitely we'll take him back one day and he'll have to face the court," she told the programme.

Rizvi said the government's efforts to bring Tarique back will go in vain as the UK, a democratic and humanitarian country, is well aware of the current Bangladesh government's 'repressive rule, brutality and cruelty'.

He said his party's acting chairman was convicted with 'Awami League trial procedure' in absence of the rule of law. "Even, now judges can't stay in the country after delivering fair judgment."

The BNP leader said Sheikh Hasina 'refused to reply to a question by British TV 'Channel-4' about Bangladesh's human rights record and enforced disappearances. "But most media here didn't focus on it as they're controlled by the government."

About Health Minister Mohammad Nasim's comments on Khaleda's medical treatment, he said, "We have expressed our grave concern repeatedly over the health and treatment of our leader."

"Nasim said Khaleda was given proper medical treatment. This is not true at all."

Meanwhile, BNP voiced concern over Khaleda Zia's health condition as the party alleged that its chairperson is not given proper treatment in jail as part of a 'conspiracy'..

"Khaleda was sent to jail for political reasons. They (govt) are not allowing her to receive treatment as part of a plot. They themselves are doing politics over her illness, but asking us not to do politics over it," said BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

He came up with the allegation at a discussion programme organized by by Arafat Rahman Koko Smriti Sangsad at the National Press Club in the city, demanding Khaleda's release from jail.

Khosru alleged the government is trying to restore one-party rule in the country by eliminating its opponents. "They want to remove the option for electing government through voting."

Meanwhile, the four-member police team deputed at the Gulshan residence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda, now in jail, was pulled out on Wednesday afternoon.

The police personnel who used to provide security to the BNP chairperson's house, 'Firoza', at Road No 79 in the city's Gulshan area were withdrawn around 3:30 pm, her media wing member Shamsuddin Didar told the news agency.

He said the police team comprising an assistant sub-inspector and three constables left Firoza saying they were called off by the higher authorities.

Contacted, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gulshan thana, said he is not aware of it as the Gulshan diplomatic zone police is dealing with the security matter of the area.
