A Dhaka court has deferred the deadline to May 17 for police to submit findings in a case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and three others. The case blames them for deaths caused during BNP-led 20-Party alliance's agitation over the last three months, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Maruf Hossain set the new date on Thursday after Gulshan Police OC asked for more time.
The others accused are BNP Standing Committee Member Rafiqul Islam Miah, Khaleda's advisers Shamser Mobin Chowdhury and Emaz Uddin Ahmed.
The case was filed by pro-government organisation Jananetri Parishad chief AB Siddique on February 2 at the court of the magistrate.
Judge Atiqur Rahman asked Gulshan police to probe the matter and submit their findings.
Siddique claimed in his complaint that 42 people had died from burns throughout the country until February1 and the government has faced huge losses due to the BNP-led agitation.
Khaleda had called for indefinite blockade from Jan 5 along with sporadic shutdowns.
Police asked to submit findings by May 17
