Police attack on protesters denounced

Women rights activists denounced on Tuesday the police attack on Bangladesh Chhatra Union activists during their protest against sexual assaults on women at Dhaka University on April 14, reports UNB.
On Sunday, about one hundred Chhatra Union activists came under police attack near Officers' Club on Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani as they tried to lay siege to the DMP headquarters, demanding arrest of perpetrators of sexual harassment against women.
Addressing a discussion, organised by Bangladesh Nari Mukti Sangsad at the National Press Club on Tuesday, the speakers demanded immediate action against the police officials involved in the incident.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal presidium member Shirin Akhter, MP, Nari Oikya president Lutfunnesa Khan, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad secretary Rakhi Das Purakayastha, and Bangladesh Workers Party central leader Bimal Biswas spoke on the occasion.
Shirin Akhter said people do not expect the police attacks on protesters including women during the rule of this government.
Terming the attack an attack on women's freedom she also sought immediate action against the police officials involved in the incident..
